Mob beats man accused of attempted rape

A man was beaten by a mob in a schoolyard yesterday in Munshiganj Sadar, following allegations of attempting to rape a fourth-grade student.
Law enforcement agencies went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The accused Abul Hossain, 55, a clerk of the school, was taken to Munshiganj General Hospital.
Later, locals and relatives of the victim took position in front of the hospital, demanding his capital punishment.

Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, in a press release, said the 10-year-old victim went to the school around 10:00am on Monday. Finding the classroom empty, Abul tried to rape her. However, he fled when other students came to the classroom.
The victim told her family about the incident later that day. Yesterday morning, locals held the accused and beat him. Abul was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment, but his transfer was being delayed due to the blockade.
Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Saiful Alam, around 7:00pm said the crowd was still surrounding the hospital.
Additional police and army personnel were deployed at the spot.
