New Delhi: Police have registered a case against five students of the prestigious Indian Law Society (ILS) Law College in Pune. A second-year student of the same institute has leveled serious allegations of ragging and mental harassment against them.
The complainant, a 35-year-old student, says the entire incident began between October and December 2024. He was targeted because he had complained to the college administration about the alleged drinking habits of the accused students, who were in their 20s.
An official FIR was filed in the case on Saturday at the Deccan Gymkhana Police Station, which falls under the Pune City Police. According to police records, the victim was a student pursuing his first year of LLB at the time of the incident.
The police have taken strict action against the accused students and have implemented the stringent provisions of the ‘Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1999’ in this case.
Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Krishkesh Rawale shared important details about the police action. He explained that the primary objective of the investigation is to establish the true sequence of events and thoroughly investigate all allegations made by the complainant.
According to DCP Rawale , the FIR was filed after a preliminary investigation into the allegations made in the complaint filed by the victim student was completed. The administration is closely investigating every aspect of the case.
According to the FIR filed, the harassment took place in the ILS Law College hostel between October 6, 2024, and December 25, 2025. This specific time period has been officially recorded in the police report.
The victim student had seen some students drinking alcohol in the hostel premises on October 6, 2024. As a responsible student, he immediately informed the relevant college authorities.
Upon learning of this complaint, the accused students began harassing her severely. They verbally abused her in the hostel and deliberately blew cigarette smoke in her face.
The level of harassment didn’t stop there. The accused became violent, breaking the glass of the victim’s bedroom door. Furthermore, they would throw eggs at her door and spit after eating gutkha to harass her.
The victim claims that he reported this ongoing abuse to the institute authorities, but despite his complaint, the management did not take any concrete action against the accused students.
Frustrated by the college administration’s alleged negligence, the student approached the University Grants Commission (UGC) anti-ragging helpline. Based on this high-level complaint, an internal committee was formed to investigate the allegations.
In the FIR, the complainant stated that the investigation committee had submitted its final report to the UGC. Later, the UGC provided him with a copy of that report.
The student explained in his police complaint that when he studied the report, he found it completely flawed and one-sided. This dissatisfaction and a sense of lack of justice led him to file an official police complaint.
