Pune – Under the guise of solving a woman’s health and family problems, a self-proclaimed guru subjected her to physical and mental torture for fifteen years. For fifteen years, the victim remained silent. She was neither able to express her pain nor make her family understand the hell she was going through. Finally, she gathered courage and ran away from the place where the fake guru had made her a toy of his will. She broke the CCTV cameras installed in the room and saved her life.
This is the story of a 41-year-old Pune woman who works for a prestigious company. Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, the Pune Police Crime Branch arrested self-proclaimed guru Radhamohan Mishra (59) and seven of his associates, including six women, from a bungalow in Ubalnagar, Wagholi. Mishra allegedly sexually exploited and defrauded the woman for 15 years under the pretext of solving her health and family problems.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told the media that the accused, Guru Radhamohan Mishra, is originally from Haryana and had been living in Pune for the past eight years, running an ashram in this bungalow. The victim is also a native of Haryana, and her father is a doctor.
She came into contact with the guru when her father went to meet Kanwal Nayan, an associate of the guru. Gradually, her family members became devoted followers of the guru.
“Mishra claimed to be a divine incarnation and tortured the victim physically, sexually and mentally. He repeatedly sexually assaulted her, forced her to drink his own urine, gave her electric shocks, asked her to divorce her husband and transferred her property to his name,” the police commissioner said.
Mishra and his associates convinced the woman and several other followers that he was an incarnation of God and forced her to drink his own urine. During those years, he also forced her to steal to enrich himself and his ashram.

Guru also entrapped the victim’s family members. According to the police commissioner, “He took advantage of their trust and turned them against the woman. He misled the family by portraying the victim as dishonest and in need of ‘reform’.”
Whenever the victim expressed her ordeal to her family, no one listened. The guru convinced the family that the woman was lying and needed “discipline.”
According to police, the woman was constantly monitored. CCTV cameras were installed in her room. When she decided to get married to escape the guru’s influence, Mishra arranged her marriage through a matrimonial website with several conditions. He instructed the woman to elope before the wedding, which damaged her relationship with her family.
The guru then demanded private videos of the woman and her husband and began blackmailing her with them. He forced her to separate from her husband. Finally, the woman gathered courage and broke all the CCTV cameras in her room. She then fled the ashram (Ublenagar Bungalow) and went to her parents’ home. When she revealed the truth to her family, their blind faith was shattered. The family then contacted the police and filed a complaint.
Upon receiving the complaint, police raided the bungalow and arrested Mishra. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Tejaswi Satpute said a case has been registered at the Khardi police station. The accused have been remanded in police custody until June 20.
Police recovered 19 hard disks, 12 laptops, a tablet, 11 mobile phones, DVDs, CDs, 23 pen drives, jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh, Rs 6.5 lakh in cash and 10 bullets from the bungalow.
The investigation revealed that Mishra had planned to build an underground tunnel in the ashram to enable him to escape in case of an emergency. Work on the tunnel was underway.
Public Prosecutor Vijay Kadam told the court that Mishra had made obscene videos of the victim. Based on this, the police sought custody of the accused. The Pune Police Commissioner stated that Mishra had followers in several states in North India and Maharashtra, who visited him regularly. The guru would lure women to his bungalow, promising to solve their family, health, and financial problems, and then sexually exploit them.
The police have invoked sections of sexual assault, criminal conspiracy and the Maharashtra Prohibition of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Cruel and Aghori Practices and Witchcraft Act against the accused.
