Pilibhit case: Police press for settlement, rape accused threatens

Human Rights Commission also took cognizance, issued notice to UP government
Lucknow. New revelations are being made in the case of abducted and raped Dalit girl in Pilibhit, UP. The relatives of the victims have accused the police of pressurizing them for reconciliation. Taking advantage of this, the accused party started threatening the victim’s family. In this case, the then police station in-charge is also accused of threatening and sending the victim’s family to jail for not reconciling. The role of a constable is also being said to be suspicious in this case.
According to the information, only one constable tried to suppress the whole matter from the beginning. Distressed by police harassment and threats from the accused, the farmer thought it right to commit suicide. Taking cognizance of the news published in the media reports, Human Rights has issued a notice to the district administration and the police. In this case, the police have arrested two accused and sent them to jail. At the same time, two accused are now out of the custody of the police.

The elder son of a Dalit farmer resident of Pilibhit, UP said, “On May 9, 2023, my father (45) and my sister (14) were working in the field. During this time my father asked the sister to go home and bring water. She went home, but did not return till evening. Father thought she must have started doing household work. But when father came home, she was not found at home. After that my father started searching for her in the whole village. Returned. After searching for a long time, when she could not be found, we went to the police station seeking help. On the contrary, the police station had threatened to send us to jail.”
The victim alleged, “My younger sister was brought in the morning by her uncle, who told that three boys of the village had forcibly taken her away. After that, she was handed over to Rahul of a nearby village, who misbehaved with the sister.” Went to the police to lodge a complaint regarding this. But the police, refusing to register an FIR, forced them to settle the matter.” The family alleges that SHO Mukesh Shukla had pressurized the victim and the accused party to compromise in the presence of relatives.
The son of the deceased farmer said, “The police did not take any action. On the contrary, they were pressing for reconciliation. Because of all this, the accused were constantly threatening to dishonor my father in the village. He was not eating food since then. He was starting to remain depressed. On 17th May my father had gone somewhere. In the late evening the police informed us that your father had hanged himself. He was brought to the CHC. After going there, he came to know that He was hanged about 7 km away from the house. The policemen are responsible for all this.”
According to the information, the girl had returned to her home on May 10. After which the victim farmer was going to the police station everyday pleading for justice. It is alleged that like every time the police used to stop them by asking them to take action in the matter. The farmer had also gone to the SP office regarding this.
When the accused came to know about the fact that the farmer was constantly visiting the police station and the officers’ office for the FIR, the accused started conspiring to implicate the victim’s family.
In this case, the house of the maternal uncle of the main accused is in the same village as the victim. The victim’s brother says that the maternal uncle of the accused has a hold in the police station and local leaders. He was continuously telling the aggrieved party not to go to the police station.
The victim’s brother said, “The maternal uncle of the accused called his father many times. Every time he told him not to get involved in the case, otherwise he will implicate you. Rahul has consumed poison in your affair, we will complain to the police station.” Will do. After this, father started getting very upset. We went to the Pilibhit Superintendent of Police office with a complaint. Gave him a letter as well.
It is alleged that the victim’s father got upset due to continuous calling and threatening. On May 17, at 9 am, he left home with the papers related to the police station, but did not reach the police station. Took rope from a shop in Amaria itself. Wandered here and there all day. Switched off the phone. The farmer’s wife is also testifying that the accused threatened her over phone.
According to the information, the farmer hanged himself on a tree 4 km away from the house at around 4 pm. When the people around saw it, they told the police. The police arrived and took the dead body into custody and took it to the hospital. As soon as the police switched on the phone, a call was received from the victim’s cousin. He tried to talk. On this the police said, “Your uncle committed suicide by hanging himself. You come to the hospital.” After this there was uproar in the house of the aggrieved party.
After the suicide, the police swung into action. He immediately registered a case against the three accused youths of the village, but the maternal uncle of the accused was not included. Jehanabad jurisdictional officer Prateek Dahiya suspended station in-charge Mukesh Shukla. The victim’s statement was recorded and after that Rahul and another accused were arrested and sent to jail. Two accused youths are absconding.
In this case, officer Prateek Dahiya told The Mooknayak that every aspect is being investigated closely. The name of any person found to have a role in this matter will be included. As far as the role of the accused constable is concerned, the matter is being investigated.
