Uttar Pradesh. In Kasganj district, a Dalit youth hanged himself in the police station. The police had taken the young man to the police station for questioning over the disappearance of a girl. Family members allege that the girl was recovered the same day and handed over to the police. Despite this, the police kept him in unconstitutional custody.
The family members also allege that the police were demanding bribe in exchange for releasing the youth. For not paying the money, the young man was kept in illegal custody and tortured. The young man, fed up with the police harassment, took this step.
Angered by the news of suicide by the youth, the family members created a ruckus in the police station. The police had to use force to disperse the crowd. In view of the tense situation in the village, a large number of police forces have been deployed. The young man has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. According to family members, the young man is in coma. On the complaint of family members, a case has been registered against some police personnel in this case. Former IPS Amitabh Thakur has termed this case as completely inhuman and unconstitutional and has demanded action against the policemen.
This incident came to light in Amanpur police station area of Kasganj district. While talking to The Mooknayak, the youth’s brother Jai Shiv narrated the entire incident from the beginning. Jai Shiv tells, “He is my aunt’s son Gaurav. My aunt Raslua lives in Sulhapur village. My brother was in love with Richa, a village girl. They both eloped with mutual consent. The girl’s family accepted this. Protested and complained to the police station. When the police gave us this information, we asked both of them to come home. When both of them came, Richa was handed over to the police, and the brother was also taken to the police station.”
Shiv further explains, “My brother was accused of kidnapping Richa, but the truth is that both of them loved each other. Richa herself confessed to this. We also have a recording of this. When we informed the police. He has not returned home since he handed him over to his brother. We kept pleading with the police, but the police were not ready to release him without taking money.” Family members allege that the police had kept him in police custody in the police station for several days. Due to which he was under a lot of stress. After interrogation, the police neither sent him to jail nor released him. The family members have accused the police of harassing them.
In the early hours of Friday, the youth hanged himself in the toilet of the police station. Due to which his condition became serious. Immediately the policemen took him to the district hospital for treatment, where seeing his condition serious, he was referred to Aligarh. On the other hand, as soon as this matter came to light, anger spread among the family members. Angry people started pelting stones at the police station. Seeing this the policemen started sweating. A policeman was injured in this stone pelting. Seeing the increasing ruckus, police forces including police officers from several police stations reached the spot. The police started chasing people by using force. After some time the situation could be brought under control. The condition of the youth who committed suicide is also said to be serious.
The family alleges that the girl’s family members, along with the police, were continuously torturing her. At present, after this incident, on the complaint of family members, the police registered a case against Veerpal, Shyam Singh and unknown policemen under IPC sections 323 (intentionally causing hurt) and 343 (confinement for more than three days). Is.
Former IPS Amitabh Thakur has called this case completely inhumane and unconstitutional. He said that no policeman can keep a person at the police station for more than three days. If a person is brought to the police station, then this information has to be given to the concerned officer. Or has to be presented before a competent magistrate within 24 hours. If any policeman violates this, he is liable for punishment under the IPC section. This incident is sad, I demand action against such policemen.
