3rd World March for Peace and Nonviolence 2024 – Visit to Pakistan
Karachi Visit (26-28 October 2024)
The 3rd World March for Peace and Nonviolence (WMPN) delegation began their Pakistan visit in Karachi with a warm welcome led by Krishan Sharma. They paid homage to Muhammad Ali Jinnah at the Quaid’s Mausoleum, honoring his ideals of peace and resilience. During an interactive session with the South Asia Research Institute for Minorities (SARIM) and an additional meeting with civil society activists, the team gained insights into Pakistan’s human rights landscape and discussed potential collaborations. Engaging with local media at the Karachi Press Club, WMPN promoted responsible journalism for peace. Their visits to St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Swami Narayan Mandir underscored Pakistan’s interfaith harmony, and their dialogues with students at SZABUL and SZABIST centered on youth-led peacebuilding. They concluded the Karachi visit with a meeting at the Sindh Assembly, discussing governmental support for nonviolence.
Lahore Visit (29-31 October 2024)
Upon arrival in Lahore, the WMPN team received a heartfelt welcome before visiting the Government Secondary School in Manga, where they inspired students to advocate for peace. They explored Lahore’s cultural heritage at Shahi Qila and Allama Iqbal’s Mausoleum, appreciating the historical values of resilience and unity. During a television interview, WMPN members shared positive impressions of Pakistan’s peaceful ideals. Engaging students at the University of Punjab and the University of Management and Technology, the team discussed the youth’s role in global harmony, while at Minhaj University, they explored how academia can contribute to peacebuilding. The Lahore visit concluded with a friendly football match, symbolizing unity and Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful, inclusive future.
