College girl killed after ‘rape’

Four children raped
Police yesterday recovered the body of a college girl, who is believed to have been killed after being raped, in Chattogram and two persons were sued over raping teenage girls in Noakhali and Netrakona.
The 20-year-old deceased is a resident of Chandanaish upazila and student of Patiya Government College in Chattogram, said police.
She came to her grandmother’s home to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr a few days ago, said Nayan Chandra Acharya, sub-inspector of Chandanaish Police Station.
The victim’s family members believe that one of their relatives, who was also staying in the house, raped the girl around 2:00am when she went to washroom, the SI said.
The suspect also stabbed the victim’s grandparents, he said.
“On information, we rushed to the spot and found the body inside the bathroom with her scarf stuffed in her mouth. We recovered the body around 3:00am and sent it for an autopsy,” Nayan told The Daily Star.
“After initial investigation, we suspect that the victim was strangled to death after rape. However, we will be able to know the fact after getting the autopsy report,” he added.
The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, he said, adding that police are trying to arrest the suspect, Nazim.
In Noakhali, a man was sued yesterday on charge of raping a 12-year-old girl.
The accused, Abul Hossain, 37, from Rangpur, works as a medical representative in a pharmaceutical company in Chaumuhani under Begumganj upazila.
Police and locals said Abul lives in a rented house adjacent to the victim’s home.
The girl was alone at her house on Tuesday night. Taking the chance, Abul forcibly took the girl to his room around 8:00pm and raped her.
As the girl started screaming, locals rushed there, rescued the girl and caught Abul.
On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested the suspect, said Liton Dewan, officer-in-charge of Begumganj Model Police Station.
The victim’s mother filed a case against Abul yesterday, the OC added.
The girl is undergoing treatment at 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, said its Resident Medical Officer Rajib Ahmed Chowdhury.
In Netrakona, a youth was sued yesterday over raping a teenage girl.
The accused, Antor Miah, 21, is a resident of Atpara upazila.
Police and the victim’s family said the girl was staying alone at home on Tuesday night.
Neighbour Antar forcibly entered the victim’s house around 8:00pm and raped her.
Hearing the girl’s screams, locals rescued the girl. But Antar managed to flee.
Initially, the victim was taken to a local health complex. As her condition deteriorated, she was later shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The victim’s father lodged a rape case against Antar yesterday evening, who is now on the run, said Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, inspector (investigation) of Atpara Police Station.
Talking to The Daily Star yesterday afternoon, the victim’s father said the girl’s condition was improving.
In Faridpur, a case was filed on Tuesday night against a man for raping a 13-year girl around three months ago.
The girl is now pregnant, according to the case statement.
The accused, Mukul Sheikh, 48, of Boalmari upazila, raped the girl on January 12 in a vegetable field.
Mukul is a father of five children.
Later on March 28, the girl fell ill and was rushed to a local clinic, where the diagnosis revealed that she was pregnant.
Police are trying to arrest Mukul, said Mahmudul Hasan, OC of Boalmari Police Station.
In Narsingdi, a man was sued yesterday over raping a fifth grader.
The accused is Narayan Chandra Paul, 53, of Shibpur upazila.
Police said the 12-year-old victim went to pick mangoes near Narayan’s home on Tuesday noon.
At that time, Narayan forcibly took the girl to a nearby paddy field and raped her.
In Joypurhat, police yesterday arrested a man, who allegedly threw a fourth grader off the roof of one-storey building after he failed to rape her.
The arrestee, Abdul Quddus, 62, a labourer, was tasked with overseeing an under construction at Khetlal upazila.
On information, police held Quddus, said OC Birendra Singh of Khetlal Police Station .
The girl was hospitalised.
