The Badi community of Calikot, who have no land and no special shelter for years, has been disturbed by the rains.
Ganga Badi, who is living in a chapro house on the roadside of Khandachakra Municipality-1, is forced to live without land even now. 21 years have passed since the Badi community started living in Calikot. Until now, this community has faced many problems because the government has not managed the land.
The system has changed in Nepal, the local government has come, now they can live in good land and houses, but the hopeful citizens of this community are still forced to live in tin huts due to lack of land.
Krishna Badi, who has been suffering from this pain for years, says that even though his slums became an agenda in the election, the problem has not been solved yet. It has been 21 years since I started living here without land. He said, ‘Until now, the government has not understood our problem.’
Even after 21 years, the government has not been able to manage the Badi community, which consists of 14 families living in Kalikot without land.
Two houses were built for the family six years ago by Janta Awas. They are also about to collapse due to rain. All others are living in rented houses. Now they are working as wage laborers from morning till evening in other people’s houses. Now they have neither land nor house to live in.
During the rainy season, more problems are added. Rental houses are also demolished. Where will you live now? In order to save my life, I used to go to my relative’s house to sleep at night.’ Gita Badi said.
The Badi community of Karnali has been demanding regular settlement for a long time. If the government doesn’t make arrangements, the problem is real. They complain that they have not received a hearing even after submitting an application to the National Land Commission, Calikot.
It has been found that the National Land Commission, Calicut, has not done any work so far to get land for the landless and unsettled residents. Chairman of National Land Commission, Calikot, Chitrasingh village said that no new work has been started.
The National Land Commission has said that the landless and unsettled residents will be given a 35-day notice after the team from the central office of the commission comes to Calicut to start new work. On the other hand, Khandachakra Municipality has not shown any interest in the arrangement of Unhiru.
