Dalit groom rides horse under police protection due to ‘restrictions’ imposed by upper caste men in UP’s Sambhal

Sambhal: Police in UP’s Sambhal escorted a Dalit wedding procession led by the groom -Ram Kishan, who was riding a horse. UP Police made extensive security arrangements in response to ‘restrictions’ placed by some upper caste men on Dalit wedding processions in the Lohamai village of Gunnaur region.
Ravina, the bride, had expressed a desire to see her groom ride a horse. As the wedding procession went towards the bride’s place, a DJ played music during the ceremony.
Following the bride’s family’s request, Superintendent of Police (Sambhal) Chakresh Mishra dispatched a large team from adjacent police stations to ensure a flawless wedding on Friday night, news agency IANS reported.
Alok Kumar Siddhu, Circle Officer (Gunnaur), and Pushkar Singh, SHO (Junawai police station), stayed with the procession until the ceremonies were completed.
44 constables, 14 sub-inspectors, one inspector, and a circle officer joined the wedding procession.
The policeman then gave the couple a “wedding gift” of Rs 11,000.
