Event Summary
The Forum for Rights of Marginalized Communities arranged an event on the 30th International Minorities rights day, in Arts Council Karachi.
Representatives from the Hindu and Christian minorities, majorly from Sindh participated and put forward their opinions on the day. Prominent officials and ministers from the ruling party of Sindh, Pakistan People’s Party were also present.
SARIM’s team participated in the event and interacted with the participants, recorded the event along with some personal video messages on the occasion of international Minorities Rights Day.
The speakers in the event highlighted the importance of minority communities. They opined that minorities are an integral part of Pakistan and are equal citizens of the state. One of the speakers, speaking about minorities of Sindh said, that minorities form Sindh are not minorities because they are part and parcel of the Sindhi nation.
Messages for SARIM
The activists and other notable personalities participating in the event also gave video messages to the team of SARIM emphasizing the importance of the international minorities’ day.
They talked for the rights of girls affected by forced conversions, political representation and moreover appreciated governments efforts to tackle the issues facing minorities.
Conclusion:
The event was an important forum regarding the rights of minorities in Pakistan. It extended a message of solidarity to the minority community of Pakistan and discussed the challenges they face. SARIM benefited from the event by its participation and interaction as it was able to network with local minority rights activists.
