Madhya Pradesh: Scholarship of Dalit-Tribal students stuck, how will their studies be completed?

Due to closure of scholarship portal, students are not able to apply, there will be delay in receiving scholarship.

Published on: 04 Jan 2024, 1:20 pm

Bhopal. “The scholarship portal has not started yet. This time also the scholarship will come late. I live in a rented room. I am completely dependent on scholarship. Living, eating and studying in the city is very expensive. I was thinking that if scholarship comes then I will study. It will be done. Now the college fees have to be paid, exams are coming. If you don’t pay the college fees, teachers put pressure on you. The financial condition of the house is also not good. Now how and from where will I arrange the fees?”

This is the question that is constantly troubling student Akash Verma. Akash comes from Scheduled Caste category. Originally resident of Dhar district. He is a second year engineering student from Barkatullah University, Bhopal. He has been making rounds of MP online shop for few days so that his online application for scholarship can be done.

This is the plight of not just one but thousands of reserved category students in Madhya Pradesh. Due to closure of the scholarship portal, students are not able to apply. Technical work is going on in the portal. Due to late submission of applications, there will be a delay in getting the scholarship. Here, the date for filling the examination form is also coming near. For this reason, students may have to pay the fees themselves, due to which financially weak students are facing problems. About 1.5 lakh students across the state are being affected by the closure of the portal.

In PG first year, economically weaker students get the benefit of Jan Kalyan Yojana (Sambal). Whereas the last date for depositing the fees for PG first semester examination is 5th January. In such a situation, students will have to deposit the fees first and after that it will come into their account. In this, the examination fee will be around Rs 1400, while the admission fee is Rs 2.5 thousand. Some students study only with the help of scholarship money. Because in other cities, arranging for accommodation and food in rooms and hostels becomes difficult.

At the same time, the beneficiary students of Mukhyamantri Medhavi Vidyarthi Yojana are not able to get themselves registered because the colleges have not even received their fees. Students who have been students of schools affiliated to Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education and have 70 percent marks in 12th class get the benefit of this scheme. The students covered under this scheme are now getting worried.

While talking to The Mooknayak, State President of the Student Division of Tribal Development Council, Neeraj Bariva said that the scholarship portal has been closed for the last several days. Thousands of students are waiting to fill the application. Tribal/Dalit students have always been worried about scholarship. Already the scholarship amount is coming late. We have sent a letter to the government that the portal should be started soon.

According to the information, security audit is going on. Due to this the portal is closed. 15 days have passed since it was closed. Now it is likely to open around January 15. Officials said that first the students have to deposit the fees, after that the amount is deposited in their account, but due to delay in the scholarship amount, the students will face problems. In this matter, we tried to talk to the Technical Education Department on phone, but the officials refused to give any answer.
