Rajasthan: Donation amount taken from Dalits for Ram Temple festival returned!

Case of Mundla village of Khanpur police station of Jhalawara district, allegation of pressurizing the police for compromise.

Published on: 13 Jan 2024, 6:39 pm

Jaipur. The consecration of the idol of Lord Ram in the Ram Temple under construction in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh will take place on January 22. There is an atmosphere of enthusiasm throughout the country. Preparations for the festival are going on in every village. On that day, donations are also being collected at many places in the name of Prasad distribution and Kalash Yatra.

One such case has come to light from Mundla village of Khanpur police station area of Jhalawara district of Rajasthan. Where earlier, donations were taken from Dalits by going door-to-door for the celebration, Kalshayatra and distribution of Prasad on the day of the consecration of the Ram temple being built in Ayodhya. People of Dalit community also gave donations as per their faith, but later those taking donations told the Dalits by telling them about their caste and said that your money will not be used to offer food to God and the Prasad made will also become impure. Saying this, the donation amount taken from the Dalits was returned.

Angered by the return of donations on the basis of caste, Dalit community people have filed a complaint with the Jhalawara district administration, accusing them of discrimination and demanding action. Dalits say that earlier donations were taken as contribution for Ram Mandir Utsav. Later, the donation was returned after being insulted with caste based words. This is an insult to the Dalit community. After the complaint, the police has started investigating the matter.

The Mooknayak spoke to Mukesh Meghwal, a resident of Mundla village. Mukesh told that many castes from the Scheduled Caste category reside in our village. Some people took donations in advance from the Dalits to celebrate the day of consecration of Ram temple, these people gave cash as donations. The people who took the money came the next day and returned the said donation amount.

Mukesh further says that when asked the reason for first taking donations and later returning them, he told that the people of our society are angry with you for taking donations. Using caste related words, he said that according to your zodiac sign, one cannot offer food to Lord Rama. Prasad will also become impure.

Now accused of pressure on police

Mukesh told that we had complained in this regard. Now the police are pressurizing us to resign. Coming to the village also. Police from Khanpur police station comes. Deputy SP and CI are also in our village now. We are being pressurized to come forward before the accused. We have refused to allow the police to confront the accused. We will give our statement. The police is not even registering a case. If the police does not register a case then people of Dalit community will protest at Jhalawara district headquarters on coming Monday.

This is a complaint, a demand for action

On January 11, people belonging to the Dalit community of Mundla village had submitted a complaint to the Jhalawar district administration and told that we the applicants are residents of village Mundla police station, Khanpur district, Jhalawar. We belong to Meghwal community, Bairava community, Dhobi community, Mehar community, which comes under Scheduled Caste. In our village, Jagdish Nagar son of Mangilal, Harishankar Nagar, Om Nagar and 10-15 people of the civil society along with them came to collect donations for the celebration, Kalshayatra and Prasad distribution on the day of consecration of the Ram temple being built in Ayodhya. Had come. On which we all donated money as per our capacity.

After this, on January 9, around 9 pm, these people came to our SC community colony. They called us outside the house. Ramswaroop son of Khemraj Dhakad, Chhotulal alias Chandraprakash, Jagdish son of Bhairulal Dhakad, Mahavir son of Hemraj Dhakad insulted them with caste related words and said that the money taken from them will not be used for offering to God. When Prasad is made, it will also become impure. That’s why we have come to return the donation amount to you. Then returned the amount.

The Mooknayak spoke to Khanpur police station officer Ramkishan Godara after allegations of pressurizing the Khanpur police station for a compromise. The police officer said that the allegations leveled on the police of pressurizing for the compromise are meaningless. We are in Mundla village. The Deputy Superintendent of Police himself has come to the village and is talking to impartial witnesses. We want to establish the trust of the police among the common people. The police will investigate the entire matter impartially.
