Odisha: Caste discrimination against Dalit student and his parents, teacher suspended

Boudh: A teacher in a government school under Kantamal block in Odisha’s Boudh district has been suspended for behaving offensively towards a Dalit student and his parents. Based on the investigation report, the Boudh District Education Officer took this action against the teacher on Monday.
According to the information, Anusuya Devi, a Sanskrit teacher of Sadar High School of Joginderpur Panchayat of Kantamal area, threw away the food items cooked for a feast on the occasion of Saraswati Puja in the school on February 14. Because a Dalit student had touched the food container. This incident spread tension among the students as well as teachers in the school.
Protesting against this behavior of the teacher, the student’s parents lodged a complaint. The school headmaster intervened to resolve the matter, but the accused teacher also misbehaved with the parent. The student’s father brought the matter to the notice of Ambedkar Dalit Samaj Vikas Parishad and with its support he approached the police demanding justice.
On the other hand, District Pana-Ganda Development Council Secretary Sudhanshu Danga drew the attention of the District Education Officer in this regard. Following the allegations, Boudh District Education Officer (DEO) Gendera Kujur directed Additional DEO Ghanshyam Mehar and Kantmal Block Education Officer Sanoj Sethi to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident. On the basis of the investigation report of the officers, the DEO suspended the guilty teacher.
Dalit woman made serious allegations against the police
Amethi . In Amethi, the parliamentary constituency of Union Minister Smriti Irani, a Dalit woman made serious allegations against the UP Police. The woman told that the Inspector (Inspector Vivek Singh) and some policemen entered her house in an intoxicated state at midnight and tried to commit obscene acts with her and her daughter. When she protested, the policemen also snatched away the woman’s mobile phone. During this time, the inspector’s alleged cap was left in his house. The woman took the cap to the Superintendent of Police for justice. Superintendent of Police Amethi has handed over the investigation of the entire matter to CO Gauriganj.
Superintendent of Police Anup Singh said that a woman had appeared during the public hearing, who alleged that some policemen had misbehaved with her, due to which investigation has been given to the concerned CO. After investigation, action will be taken against any policeman found guilty.
