Boudh: A teacher in a government school under Kantamal block in Odisha’s Boudh district has been suspended for behaving offensively towards a Dalit student and his parents. Based on the investigation report, the Boudh District Education Officer took this action against the teacher on Monday.

According to the information, Anusuya Devi, a Sanskrit teacher of Sadar High School of Joginderpur Panchayat of Kantamal area, threw away the food items cooked for a feast on the occasion of Saraswati Puja in the school on February 14. Because a Dalit student had touched the food container. This incident spread tension among the students as well as teachers in the school.

Protesting against this behavior of the teacher, the student’s parents lodged a complaint. The school headmaster intervened to resolve the matter, but the accused teacher also misbehaved with the parent. The student’s father brought the matter to the notice of Ambedkar Dalit Samaj Vikas Parishad and with its support he approached the police demanding justice.

On the other hand, District Pana-Ganda Development Council Secretary Sudhanshu Danga drew the attention of the District Education Officer in this regard. Following the allegations, Boudh District Education Officer (DEO) Gendera Kujur directed Additional DEO Ghanshyam Mehar and Kantmal Block Education Officer Sanoj Sethi to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident. On the basis of the investigation report of the officers, the DEO suspended the guilty teacher.
