New Delhi. A case of gang rape and murder of a 9 year old minor girl has come to light in Puducherry. The body of a nine-year-old girl, who went missing a few days ago, was recovered from a drain near her house in Muthialpet block of the Union Territory.
Puducherry Police said that two persons, Vivekanandan (56) and Karunas (19), have been arrested and some other suspects have been detained in connection with this heinous crime. An SIT has been formed to investigate whether more people were involved in the crime.
Home Minister A Namasivayam said those arrested have been booked under provisions of POCSO, SC/ST Act and murder and kidnapping.
According to reports, on March 5, the girl’s gruesome murder came to light when her partially decomposed body was found in a drain near her house, 72 hours after her parents reported her missing. The girl’s parents had reported her missing on March 2 and Muthialpet police obtained CCTV footage from the entire area. However, they found no evidence that the girl had gone out of the area.
According to police officials, the accused kidnapped the girl and raped her. The accused confessed to the police that the girl was murdered during sexual assault. Further investigation on this is still going on.
Let us tell you that a class five student of a government school in Muthialpet went missing on the evening of March 2, after which her parents lodged a police complaint after searching for her at various places. After this the police started a search to trace the girl.
After a two-day search operation, some neighbors and police found the girl’s body wrapped in a bedsheet-like material inside a drain just meters away from her house. His hands and legs were found tied with ropes. The discovery of the body led to massive protests across Puducherry and demands for the resignation of Chief Minister N Rangaswamy.
According to reports, initially, her parents had refused to accept the girl’s body until the accused were arrested. The postmortem was conducted at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER). The girl was cremated by the family at around 9:00 am on 7 March, with police protection.
At the same time, massive protests took place in the Union Territory of Puducherry on Wednesday. People were outraged when it came to light that a nine-year-old girl, whose mutilated body was recovered from a drain near her house the previous day, had been gang-raped.
The incident of rape-murder of a Class 5 schoolgirl sparked outrage across the country. Expressing protest over this incident, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote on his social media handle After all, why are the incidents of crimes against daughters continuously increasing in the country? In 2022 alone, there were 4.5 lakh criminal incidents against women, out of which 31 thousand cases were of rape alone.”
He further wrote, “Be it Ankita Bhandari’s family sitting on the road in Uttarakhand, or the husband who hanged himself along with his children after not getting justice for abusing his wife in Madhya Pradesh, or the Spanish tourist who came to Jharkhand She became a victim of gang rape. Every such incident is a reflection of an insensitive system and a cruel society, which is a matter of introspection for us as a nation. Safety and respect for women is the identity of a developed nation.”
Meanwhile, Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the girl’s family and assured that a charge sheet will be filed against the accused soon and the prosecution will ensure that the accused are given maximum punishment by the court. .
