UP: Dalit youth lands in drain full of filth! Know what happened after the unique protest?
Due to the drain not being cleaned for a long time in Govind Nagar DBS Basti of Kanpur, the drain water has now come on the road. Due to which the pedestrians and general public are facing a lot of problems.

Kanpur. Step-motherly treatment of Dalit settlements is not a new thing. Municipal bodies and municipal corporations have often been reluctant to provide basic facilities in the settlements of people coming from marginalized communities. The latest case is from Govind Nagar DBS colony of Kanpur city of UP. Due to the drain not being cleaned for a long time, the drain water has now come on the road, due to which the pedestrians and the general public are facing a lot of problems. When the drain is open, people living in the colony are falling and getting injured, due to which a Dalit youth living in the colony protested by getting into the drain filled with dirt. A crowd of people gathered to see it.
Accused the Municipal Corporation while standing in the drain
In Govind Nagar Zone 5 Ward 2 Harijan Basti, the drain is full of filth due to lack of cleanliness for a long time. Due to which the drain water came on the road. Troubled by this, Vikas Katheria, a resident of the same area, today entered the filled drain and started protesting with folded hands for cleaning the drain. Seeing the development, nearby people gathered and started raising slogans against the Municipal Corporation. The young man says that he will not come out of the drain until it is cleaned. He said, “People are becoming sick due to this filth and stagnant water.”
Vikas Katheria told The Mooknayak – “We had informed the councilor about the problem, even after this the cleaning was not done. We also gave a memorandum to the Kanpur Municipal Corporation Commissioner regarding the cleaning of the drain and the problems in the colony, but no action was taken. Therefore Had to enter the drain to draw the attention of the administration. This protest will continue until the drain is cleaned.” Here, some people made a video of this unique performance and made it viral on social media.
Cleaning hasn’t been done for a long time
People of the area said that the drain has not been cleaned for a long time. Due to which the people living there are facing a lot of problems. Holi festival is also near. Even after complaining several times the councilors do not listen. When you go home they say that the government is not ours and the work will not be done. We have also given this information to the Municipal Corporation Department, but no work has been done yet.

Sunita, a resident of the same locality, told The Mooknayak – “Children remain sick due to non-cleaning of drains. This problem is not of today. It has happened earlier too. Cleaning of drains is done only on paper. Due to being a Dalit colony. There is no cleaning. Today the drain water has come on the road. Due to the smell of the drain water, it has become difficult to sit in the house. There is difficulty in coming out. Many people have fallen and got injured.”
PRO of Kanpur Municipal Corporation Zone-4 Prabhat Dwivedi told The Mooknayak – “Information has been received through viral video. A reply has been sought from the concerned sanitation inspector. Orders have been given to clean the drain.”
