UP: Doctor accused of molesting a Dalit girl, police did not take action, sought help from court

A doctor in Robertsganj, UP was accused of molesting, financially exploiting and beating a Dalit girl and her mother. The police did not take any action despite the complaint, due to which the victim had to resort to court. On the court’s order, a case was registered against the accused doctor under molestation, SC/ST Act and other sections.
UP: A case has been registered against a private doctor in Robertsganj area of Sonbhadra district on serious charges of molestation and misbehavior with a Dalit girl and her mother. The incident is related to a tribal woman and her daughter, residents of Ghorawal Kotwali area, who had approached Deva Hospital in Robertsganj for the treatment of their ailing husband. The woman alleges that the doctor charged her a huge amount in the name of treating her husband and did not provide proper treatment.
Economic exploitation in the name of treatment
To start her husband’s treatment, the woman paid Rs 5,000 online and Rs 26,000 in cash to the doctor Dr. Alok Verma’s account. Apart from this, a separate payment was demanded in the name of bed charge and doctor’s fee. Despite this, her husband’s condition kept deteriorating. The woman said that when she asked for discharge as there was no improvement in the treatment, the doctor asked for another Rs 5,000.
Allegations of molestation and indecent behavior
According to the woman, on June 6 at 12 noon, when she was talking about arranging money, the doctor first grabbed her and then her daughter and pulled them. During this, there was abuse and a scuffle, due to which the girl’s sari came off and she was exposed. The woman alleged that the doctor touched her daughter’s body inappropriately. Troubled by this situation, the woman immediately informed the police on 112.
Allegations of police apathy and intimidation
The woman said that after reaching the spot, the police acted under the influence of the doctor and asked her to go to the police station. The woman filed a complaint in the police station, but no action was taken. On the contrary, the police made her put her thumb impression on a blank paper and also forced her children to sign. The police also threatened to implicate her in a false case and send her to jail.
Husband’s death and the fight for justice
During treatment, the woman’s husband died a week later due to serious injuries allegedly inflicted by the doctor. Even after this, the police did not register a case nor did they conduct a medical examination. The woman informed the higher authorities in this regard, but there was no change in the situation. Finally, the woman approached the court of Special Judge (SC/ST).
Case filed on court order
On the woman’s complaint, the court intervened and directed the police to register a case against the accused doctor. Now Robertsganj police station has registered a case against the doctor under molestation, assault, SC-ST Act, and other sections. Investigation of the case has started, but this fight for justice for the woman and her family still seems to be a long one.
