Vandalism against Sahariya family in Guna, MP: Hut demolished, crops destroyed, then beaten

Bhopal. A serious case of assault and atrocities on a family of Sahariya community by goons has come to light in Karili village of Sirsi police station area of Guna district of Madhya Pradesh. The victim family has alleged that the goons ran a tractor over their hut, destroyed the wheat crop and beat up the family. Apart from this, the family alleged that the goons tried to kill them by giving them electric shock. This dispute has raised questions about the law and order in the area.

Harisingh Saharia’s family lives in a hut on their land near the Barkheda canal in Karili village. At the time of the incident, Prembai Saharia was sleeping in the hut with her husband Harisingh, son Sonu, brother-in-law Gyani Singh, nephew Raju, and sister-in-law Viddi Bai. At around 2 am on Saturday-Sunday night, the former village sarpanch, his two sons and 15-20 relatives came with two tractors.
Victim Prembai said that the goons destroyed her 10 bigha wheat crop with a tractor and also ran the tractor over her hut. After this, they forcibly took her to the electricity DP and tried to kill her by electrocution, but her life was saved as the power went out. All the family members were beaten up and kept under the open sky throughout the night.

Complaint lodged with police
On Sunday morning, the police reached the spot and took stock of the situation and Hari Singh, Gyani Singh, and Raju were taken to the police station. Sirsi police station in-charge SI Abhishek Tiwari said that there was an incident of assault between the two sides and the fight was over land dispute. The police have registered a cross case on the complaint of Gyani Singh of the Saharia side and Indrabhan Singh Yadav of the Yadav side.
SI Tiwari said, “It has been confirmed that the accused destroyed the crop with a tractor and broke the hut. SDOP Vivek Ashthana informed that there has been a land dispute between the two parties for a long time. He had written a letter to the Tehsildar to resolve the dispute, but no solution has been found so far.
The Sahariya family alleged that they were abused during the assault and forcibly kept under the open sky on a cold night. The miscreants made serious efforts to intimidate them. However, Indrabhan Singh of the other side has also mentioned about the axe injury in the complaint.

He said that such incidents have increased since last year, which is a matter of concern for the society. He expressed deep displeasure over the incident and urged the police administration to take immediate action.
Sisodia informed that he has spoken to the Superintendent of Police and demanded that the culprits be arrested as soon as possible. He warned the administration that if such incidents are not curbed in time, it will create an atmosphere of insecurity and distrust in the society.
