Police assaulted drunk ANNFSU leader when he was reminded not to make a fuss

2/7/2025 Kathmandu – Two policemen on duty were assaulted in Thamel, the capital, on Thursday night. Police have said that the perpetrators were leaders of the ANNFSU, a party close to the ruling party, CPN-UML.
Durbarmarg Police have stated that Police Constable Raghu Lal Gharti and Police Constable Nagendra Bista, who were on duty on a motorcycle from Police Circle Durbarmarg, were assaulted. The police have identified the perpetrators.
Police have stated that six people, including ANNFSU standing committee members Kamal Joshi, Ramesh Phulara, Ganesh Shahi, Dinesh Sigdel, and Gopal Jung Shahi, were among those who assaulted them.
The police were attacked at the Amrit Science Campus in Thamel. Police said that the police, who were on duty on a motorcycle, tried to calm down the student leaders who were drunk and shouting, but were attacked instead.
According to Superintendent of Police Appelraj Bohora, spokesperson of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, an investigation has been initiated by requesting CCTV footage of the incident. The police said that a search is underway for the attackers. After attacking the police, they entered the hostel of Askal Campus.
