Kin demand CB-CID probe into engineering student’s death

Published – February 15, 2025 08:21 pm IST – THENI

The parents and the relatives of a 21-year-old engineering student, S. Vignesh, who was found dead in the college hostel bathroom, staged a protest at Theni Collectorate on Saturday, demanding a CB-CID probe into his death as they suspected foul play in the incident.

They subsequently submitted a petition to the Theni Collector pressing their demand. Vignesh of Tirunelveli was found dead in the hostel bathroom at the Government Engineering College in Bodinayakanur in Theni district on Friday.

According to the police, Vignesh, a third-year student, was pursuing Electronics and Communications Engineering and was staying at the college hostel which was located near the college campus.

On Thursday morning, he had apparently gone to the bathroom to brush. The other students did not see him after that. It is said that the students also did not see him at college afterwards. Later, they went in search of him and found that the door of the hostel bathroom was locked from inside.

When the door was opened with the help of college security guard, the body of Vignesh was found inside in a pool of blood. Bodinayakanur police were alerted and the body was sent to Government Theni Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem. Investigation was under way, the police said.
