4 held over gang rape of schoolgirl in Bandarban

Police detained four suspects for the alleged gang rape of a schoolgirl in Bandarban’s Alikadam upazila.
The victim is a class eight student at a school in Alikadam Sadar. She comes from an impoverished family and has no father.
According to family sources, the incident took place on March 14 when the girl was returning home after bathing in the Matamuhuri River.
The four suspects covered her mouth, took her to a tobacco field and raped her.
The perpetrators also allegedly recorded a video of the rape scene and threatened the victim to prevent her from filing a case.
However, with the help of relatives, the girl filed a complaint with Alikadam Police Station yesterday (March 19) noon in this regard.
Alikadam Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mirza Zahir Uddin said the four suspects were brought to the police station for questioning based on the victim’s complaint.
If the allegations are true during the investigation, they will be formally arrested, and the complaint will be recorded as a case, the OC added.
