20-year-old held on rape charges in Munshiganj

A youth was arrested early today in a case filed over the rape of a girl in Tongibari of Munshiganj.
The accused is Nayan Molla, 20, of Abdullahpur area.
Police arrested Nayan from his house in the Abdullahpur area of the upazila after the victim’s father filed a rape case with Tongibari Police Station early today accusing him, Md Jiban Sheikh, 20, Apan Bepari, 19, Md Arman, 18, and Miraj, 19, said Munshiganj Additional Superintendent of Police Anisur Rahman.
According to the case statement and police sources, Nayan was in a relationship with the 20-year-old victim earlier but they recently got separated.
On March 28, he called her to a house to settle some issue.
When she reached the secluded house, Nayan confined her to a room and raped her. At that time, Nayan’s associates Jiban, Apan, Arman, and Miraj, who were hiding at the scene, recorded the video. Later, he threatened the victim with spreading the video online and the others took turns and raped the girl.
The incident came to light recently when Nayan and his associates released the video on social media. Later, on early Sunday, the victim’s father filed a case with the police station.
Munshiganj Additional Superintendent of Police Anisur Rahman said, “One person was arrested the same night [early today] after the complaint was filed.
“During initial interrogation, he confessed to the incident,” he said.
Police are trying to arrest the other accused who are absconding, he added.
