Etah, Uttar Pradesh: A 30-year-old Dalit youth was shot dead in Etah district’s Jalesar town on Monday afternoon over a property dispute involving a medical store. According to police, the injured youth has been identified as Anil Kumar.
Anil Kumar works in a local medical store, which belongs to a person named Rambabu. According to the police, the accused Dinesh Yadav, whose house is located right next to the medical store, had been pressuring Rambabu to vacate the shop for a long time. There had been several arguments between the two over this.
On Monday, Dinesh Yadav allegedly fired a shot during the dispute, which hit Anil Kumar in the back. Anil was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors said his condition was stable.
As soon as the news of the incident spread, people from the Dalit community participating in the Ambedkar Jayanti procession in other parts of the city reached the spot and started shouting slogans demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and strict action. The police brought the situation under control by convincing the people.
Etah Circle Officer Nitish Garg said, “Dinesh Yadav has been arrested. Initial investigation has revealed that he used to threaten Anil Kumar to force Ram Babu to vacate the shop.”
However, the police say that neither Rambabu nor Anil Kumar had ever lodged any complaint about these threats. The police have registered a case and started further investigation.
