Saharanpur – The body of a 35-year-old Dalit labourer was found hanging from a tree in a field in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The family members of the deceased have refused to accept it as a case of suicide and have expressed suspicion of murder.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sagar Jain said the deceased has been identified as Rajesh, a resident of Jat Jaraida village, who worked as a daily wage labourer for a local farmer.
As soon as the incident was reported, the police team, forensic unit and Rajesh’s family reached the spot. The body has been taken into custody and sent for postmortem so that the real cause of death can be ascertained.
Based on the preliminary investigation, SP Jain said, “Rajesh had gone to operate the tubewell in the field at around 2 am. In the morning, when the villagers were going towards the field, they saw Rajesh’s body hanging from a tree and immediately informed the police.”
However, the relatives of the deceased allege that Rajesh was murdered and his body was hung from a tree so that it could be made to look like a suicide. Police say that the investigation is being done from all angles.
Rajesh has left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
