Anantapur: A horrific sexual assault case has come to light in Edugurralpalli village of Ramagiri mandal in Sathyasa district where a Dalit Class 9 student was found to be six months pregnant. It is alleged that she was raped by her boyfriend and his 12 associates.
On Thursday, the girl’s parents took her for treatment after she fell sick repeatedly, where a local registered medical practitioner (RMP) informed that she was six months pregnant, reports Deccan Chronicle . Following this, the Ramagiri police questioned the minor in the presence of her parents, where she revealed that 13 youths sexually assaulted her from time to time.
The prime accused was identified as Abhishek from the same village, who allegedly deceived the girl by pretending to love her. He took her to a secluded spot and raped her. Later, she informed about the incident to one of her close friends, who also raped the girl after luring her to a secluded spot and recorded the act on his cellphone. He shared this video with his friends, following which 12 other youths raped her by threatening to make the video viral. Despite the threats, the video went viral on social media, revealing the names of the accused.
On Thursday, some community elders allegedly pressured the families of the victim and the accused to settle the matter by paying money. Allegations were made on social media that the accused were children of people associated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and were misusing political influence. In response, Sathya Sai Superintendent of Police P.V. Ratna along with Dharmavaram division police identified the victim’s family and registered a case on Friday.
Ramagiri Inspector Sridhar confirmed that the minor has been admitted to the Dharmavaram Government Hospital for treatment. Cases have been registered under the POCSO Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the 13 accused—Abhishek, Prateek, Mahesh, Vardhan, Giri, Rajesh, Jakku, Anji, Murali, Hemanth, Karthik, Nanda and H. Nagaraju—as well as two village elders who tried to hush up the matter.
YSR Congress in-charge T. Prakash Reddy alleged that children of TDP supporters were behind the heinous act and MLA Paritala Sunitha was allegedly trying to protect the accused. Sunitha denied these allegations and said that she has instructed the police to take strict action against all the accused.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials are assuring to take strict action to ensure justice for the victim.
