Man arrested over rape of fifth grader

Police arrested a 45-year-old traditional healer in Begumganj, Noakhali, on Saturday for allegedly raping a fifth-grade boy.
The accused is Md Alamgir Hossain Faraji, said Begumganj Model Police Station OC Md Shamsuzzaman.
According to the case statement, the boy went to Alamgir’s pharmacy at Hasanhat Bazar around 7:00pm on September 13 for treatment of a headache. Alamgir allegedly took him to a room behind the shop, claiming he could cure the headache through ritualistic healing, and raped him there.
The family later learnt about it after the boy informed them. The victim’s father filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Alamgir previously served as Baitul Mal secretary, general secretary and president of Sharifpur Union Ward-4 Jamaat-e-Islami, said Mozammel Hossain, secretary of Sharifpur union Jamaat.
He said Alamgir held various posts until 2022 but is currently inactive.
A Noakhali court later sent Alamgir to jail, police said.
