Indore: 19-year-old tribal youth dies in police custody, mother was asking for 8 thousand

A case of death of a tribal youth in police custody has come to light in Manpur police station area of Indore district of Madhya Pradesh. Arjun Singare, a 19-year-old tribal youth, was taken into custody by the police on Friday, 2 September, on charges of planning a robbery, but the news of his death came the very next day on Saturday, 3 September. The family has alleged that the police had Arjun was brutally killed in custody, due to which he died.
What is the whole matter?
Manpur police had told a press conference on Friday that the police arrested 4 accused while planning a robbery at the Essar petrol pump located on Labor Road on the late night of September 1, while two accused had escaped. Arjun Singare, one of the absconding accused, was caught on Friday. The news of Arjun’s death came to light on Saturday morning.
The relatives have alleged that Arjun died due to police beating. The relatives have also alleged that after being taken into custody, the police had also come home with Arjun, then the family members were also beaten up. As soon as Arjun’s death was reported, a large number of people reached Manpur police station and created a ruckus. After the sudden death of Arjun, heavy police force has been deployed at Manpur police station.
Talking to the media, the mother of the deceased youth said that my son was not a criminal, so we took him along and presented him before the police. She says that when she went to meet Arjun the next time, she said that the policemen are asking for 8 thousand, they are killing me a lot, they will kill me. The mother alleges that when she went to the police station again, the policemen were killing her son by tying him to a pole.
What do the police have to say?
The matter is being investigated by senior police officers. According to SP Bhagat Singh Birde, the accused Arjun was being taken by the police for recovery of the weapon on Saturday morning. The SP says that Arjun was taken to the hospital in Manpur after his health deteriorated on the way where doctors declared him dead. The body has been sent to MYH Hospital for post-mortem.
SP Bhagat Singh Birde said that five policemen have also been suspended in this case. He has said that the District Judge has ordered a judicial inquiry and action will be taken against the guilty.
