Dalit youth Pravesh Gautam died due to police beating in Ambedkar Nagar?
On Wednesday, November 30, a Dalit youth Pravesh Gautam died in Bewana police station area of Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The family members of the deceased have alleged that two constables of Ambedkar Nagar police thrashed Pravesh badly after which the doctor in the hospital declared Pravesh brought dead. Although the Ambedkar Nagar police, while ordering an inquiry, said that till now the death of Pravesh Gautam has not been confirmed due to police assault.
There was a fight in the old dispute:
According to the Ambedkar Nagar police, the deceased Pravesh Gautam was 20 years old and a resident of Songaon. A few days ago he had gone to his sister’s house in Bewana village where his sister was already having a dispute with someone.
On Wednesday 30 November, the dispute led to an altercation and a fight between the two sides in which Pravesh was badly injured. When he was taken to the district hospital Akbarpur in an unconscious state, the doctors there declared him brought dead.

Police formed the investigation committee:
According to District Magistrate Ambedkar Nagar, Superintendent of Police Ambedkar Nagar reached the spot and talked to the relatives of the deceased, who said that the deceased died due to beating by the police. However, it is not yet confirmed whether the police had thrashed the deceased or not.

Police say that an inquiry committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate for a fair investigation of the incident.
