INDORE: Six persons were injured after upper caste members attacked the wedding procession of a Dalit BSF jawan in Mandsaur’s Garoth area on Wednesday night.
Mandsaur SP Anurag Sujaniya said that on the complaint from Dalit community members and after reviewing videos, a case was registered against 29 people, including a minor. “All 28 persons have been arrested. There are some unnamed accused, who we are trying to identify. Our investigation is on,” he said.

Garoth police station in-charge Kamlesh Singar said that BSF personnel Arjun Meghwal, who is posted in Meghalaya, had come to the village for his marriage.
“We knew about the situation, so police had been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident. Even then, some members of the Meena community pelted stones at the (Dalit) procession, injuring six persons. They also vandalized a police vehicle,” he said. Stones were hurled at the baraat, injuring Ghanshyam Meghwal, Toofan Singh, Ganpatlal Meghwal, Rahul Meghwal and Ramchandra Meghwal, said police.
Police quickly dispersed the mob and escorted the Dalit baraat, said an officer. The accused have been booked for violence, rioting and under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. After the incident, heavy police force was deployed in the area and Arjun led his baraat in police presence.
