Gujarat: Dalit man thrashed for wearing glasses and new clothes

Ignored by police, arrest not made even after four days

Upper caste people in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district allegedly thrashed a Dalit youth for wearing nice clothes and sunglasses. Police has registered a named case against 7 people in this case. Even after four days of the incident, the police could not make any arrest in this case.

Jigar Shekhaliya, a resident of Mota village of Garh area of Banaskantha district of Gujarat, comes from Scheduled Caste community. According to information, on May 30, Jigar was standing outside his house when one of the accused came to him and threatened to kill the victim along with abusing her, saying that he was flying very high these days. The same night, when Jigar was standing outside the village temple, six upper caste men came towards him and beat him up with sticks. However, when the victim’s mother came to save her, the accused also thrashed her. Citing the complaint, the police said that the accused also tore her clothes. Currently both are undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
Based on the complaint made by the victim, Jigar Shekhalia, an FIR has been registered against seven people. All of them were alleged by the victim that angry with her wearing clothes and glasses, the accused thrashed her and her mother.
In this case, on the victim’s Tahrir, the police have registered sections 143 , 147 , 148 , 149 , 294 (b) , 323 , 354 , 506 of the IPC against the seven named accused, including 3 (1) (r) of the AC / ST Act. , (s) and 3(2) (va) have registered a case.
In this case, station in-charge Garh Sanjay Rajgor told that no one has been arrested in this incident so far. Police is continuously raiding.
