Tamil Nadu: Dalit youth files complaint against DMK leader and in-laws for kidnapping of wife
A Scheduled Caste youth from Tirupattur district of Tamil Nadu has lodged a police complaint alleging that his wife has been kidnapped by her parents and relatives with the help of a local DMK leader.

Chennai: A Scheduled Caste youth from Tirupattur district of Tamil Nadu has lodged a police complaint alleging that his wife has been kidnapped by her parents and relatives with the help of a local DMK leader. M. Thiyagu (21), a youth from Shankarapuram village in the district, lodged a complaint at Amballur police station that his wife was kidnapped by her parents with the help of a local DMK leader.
Thiyagu, in her complaint filed on Thursday (January 18), said she belongs to the Adidravidar community, a Scheduled Caste community, and she married R after six years of love. Was married to Narmada (22), who belongs to the upper caste Vanniyar community. He said that Narmada’s family had strong objections but they got married on December 3, 2023. Narmada’s family lodged a missing complaint the next day and the couple appeared in the Vaniyambadi court on 7 December and Narmada said she wanted to live with her husband Thiyagu.
The Dalit youth said in their complaint that since then they have been facing harassment from Narmada’s family. He further said that on Wednesday (January 17), Narmada’s parents and relatives along with DMK leader and local panchayat council president Elumalai were forcibly taken to their house in Shankarapuram. In his complaint, the youth accused Narmada’s father Rajendran, mother Vasantha and brothers, Govinda Raj, Prabhu and Rajesh and Elumalai.
Amballur police have registered a case against the accused under sections 448, 294 (B) and 365 of the IPC. Police said the woman’s father Rajendran has been questioned and other suspects are absconding. When IANS contacted Tirupattur Superintendent of Police Albert John, he said the police would trace Narmada soon.
