Narsinghpur: In a shocking incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Narsinghpur district, a Dalit man was allegedly forced to drink urine by two upper caste men after being held captive and assaulted, according to an official statement on Monday . According to a First Information Report (FIR) lodged at the SC/ST police station of the district, the incident took place at Barha village in Gadarwara tehsil on July 30.
The accused have been identified as Sallu Budholia and Suraj Kachera. They have been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 296 (obscene act in public place), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 3 (5) (joint criminal liability). They have also been charged under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
According to the FIR, the 34-year-old victim claimed that Budhauliya and Kachera, who were his acquaintances, kidnapped him on a motorcycle, held him hostage and demanded Rs 2 lakh from a man named Premnarayan Verma. When the victim refused, he was allegedly brutally beaten up and subjected to caste-based abuses.
The report further states that the accused later took the victim to an eatery, where he had dinner with Verma. After Verma left, Budhaulia and Kachera allegedly attacked the victim again, took him back to Barha Bara and forced him to drink urine during the journey.
The FIR states that the victim was known in the village for his role in freeing 32 acres of grazing land from encroachment by local goons.
Narsinghpur Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar told reporters, “Budhaulia and Kachera have been taken into custody. We have immediately registered an FIR and further investigation is underway.”
This incident is similar to a case that happened in July last year, when a video went viral in which a person named Pravesh Shukla was urinating on a tribal youth. Shukla was allegedly close to former BJP MLA Kedarnath Shukla. This video had sparked outrage across the country. At that time, the then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan had gone to the victim’s house and washed his feet as a way of atonement. Now again similar incidents are coming to light in the state.
