Himachal Pradesh: Dalit constable dismissed on fabricated charges, case filed against DGP and other policemen
The complainant alleged that her husband was first harassed and then dismissed on July 9, 2020 on the basis of fabricated charges, even though he had eight years left for retirement.

A case has been registered against the former Director General of Police (DGP) of Himachal Pradesh and nine other police officers. Himachal Police has registered this case for allegedly harassing a Dalit constable and dismissing him from the job on the basis of fabricated charges. While the constable had eight years of tenure left.
Regarding the complaint lodged with the police, Meena Negi, wife of dismissed constable Dharmsukh Negi, said that in November 2023, she had informed the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Secretary (Home) and Shimla Superintendent of Police (SP) about the atrocities and inhuman treatment meted out to her husband.
The complainant alleged that first her husband was harassed and then on July 9, 2020, he was dismissed on the basis of fabricated charges, even though he had eight years left to retire. Not only was he removed from the job, but an order was also given to recover Rs 1 lakh 43 thousand 423 from him for delay in vacating the government accommodation.
According to the complainant woman, the family was humiliated in the society by the then police officials by sending notices several times to vacate her husband’s government residence in the Police Residential Colony Bharari and her native village Ramni in District Kinnaur.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against former Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police (retired) and nine other police officers under section 3(1)(b) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, officials said. The FIR was registered on Monday on the direction of the IG (Inspector General) (Southern Range), police said. Negi hails from Himachal Pradesh’s tribal-dominated Kinnaur district.
Among the police officers who have been accused, there are several IPS officers and they are currently posted on high posts. Three IPS officers are working on the post of SP. Out of these two police officers are SPs of districts. During this time former DGP Sanjay Kundu, retired IPS officers Himanshu Mishra and Arvind Sharda, IPS officers Diwakar Dutt Sharma, Shalini Agnihotri, Anju Ara Khan, Bhagat Singh Thakur, Pankaj Sharma, Meenakshi and Baldev Sharma have been accused of harassment.
