MEERUT: A 14-year-old girl from the Dalit community was gang-raped by two men, who would give her Rs 100 once in a while, for weeks at a village in Bulandshahr district, police said, adding that “both have been arrested.”
The crime came to light on Oct 5 when the girl’s mother found some money in her school bag. Upon questioning, she revealed that the two upper caste men had first sexually assaulted her in their house about two weeks ago, and thereafter started providing her with money for repeated assaults and threatened her to remain silent.
Circle Officer (Sikandrabad) Purnima Singh said on Tuesday, “Based on her family’s complaint, an FIR was registered under BNS section 70 (2) (gang rape), Pocso Act, and section 3 (2) (v) of the SC/ST Act against the two accused — Naresh Singh and Harvindra Kumar (in their 30s).”
The CO added: “The girl’s father died a few years ago owing to some illness, and her mother works as a daily wager. Both the accused work as drivers and live in the same locality as the survivor. The girl was sent for medical examination and her condition is said to be stable. An investigation is underway.”
