New Delhi: A shocking incident has come to light from Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh. Where a 24-year-old Dalit youth was attacked by seven people for drinking water from a hand pump near a temple. The victim has been identified as Abhishek Gautam. Gautam has filed a complaint regarding the assault on July 26. Gautam has stated in his complaint that the attackers abused him with casteist slurs. Not only this, they pressed his neck under their feet until his tongue came out due to pain.

Uttar Pradesh: Bhadohi: Uproar over drinking water from a hand pump near a temple. The accused also threatened the Dalit youth’s family and asked him not to inform the authorities about the incident. Confirming the matter, Superintendent of Police Meenakshi Katyayan said that Gautam, a BA student and a Dalit Kabaddi player, was earlier also threatened by people not to use the public place near the temple.
Appealed for justice
Gautam alleged that the district police did not take any action against the accused even after bringing it to their notice. Disappointed, Gautam complained to the special court and pleaded for justice. After this, on Thursday, the court ordered that a case be registered against the seven accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. According to the information, the accused are still absconding. The Superintendent of Police says that the FIR was registered on October 17 after the court’s direction. The responsibility of investigation has been handed over to Circle Officer Prabhat Rai. Information about the arrest of the accused has not been received yet.
