Dalit woman attacked by goons in Lucknow: abused, beaten and tried to burn her

Posted on November 30, 2024 by Dalit Times

In Lucknow’s Itaunja police station area, a Dalit woman was attacked and burned by the village head’s siblings using casteist slurs. The woman is seriously injured and hospitalised. The police have been accused of laxity in action, while Dalit organisations have staged protests demanding justice. The case has again raised questions on caste atrocities.

UP News: An incident that shames humanity has come to light from Lucknow’s Itaunja police station area, where the bullies abused a Dalit woman using caste-related language, beat her up and even tried to burn her. This incident happened on the way to the village when the woman was going for her daily needs. It is alleged that the village head’s brother and sisters stopped the woman on the way and first abused her using caste related language. When the woman protested against this, those people attacked her with deadly weapons.

Woman sustained serious injuries during attack, admitted to hospital

During the attack, the goons brutally beat the woman, due to which she got seriously injured. Locals said that on hearing the woman’s screams, people from the vicinity rushed to the spot and somehow saved her. The injured woman was immediately taken to the hospital, where her condition remains critical.

Question on police action: accused not arrested

After the incident, the victim woman lodged a complaint at the police station, but the police have not taken any concrete action against the accused till now. The villagers alleged that the police are trying to suppress the case because the accused are relatives of the village head.

Dalit organizations protest, demand justice

Dalit organizations protested strongly against this incident in Lucknow. They say that this is not just an attack on a woman, but an attack on the self-respect of the entire community. The organizations have demanded from the administration that the accused be arrested as soon as possible and the victim should get justice.

Question again on caste atrocities

This incident raises serious questions about caste atrocities in Uttar Pradesh. People of the Dalit community say that they are still victims of social and economic exploitation. This incident has once again shown that Dalits have to struggle a long time to get justice.

Statement by officials

Itaunja police station in-charge has said that a case has been registered and police are conducting raids to arrest the accused. However, local people and organizations say that police inaction may delay justice.

The incident has sparked outrage in Lucknow and surrounding areas, and people are now demanding justice for the victim.
