Dalit youths were tied to a pole and beaten up on suspicion of theft in Sambhal, case filed after video went viral

After the video went viral, the police swung into action and registered an FIR against named and unknown people under several sections including the SC/ST Act.

Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh) — A case has come to light in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh where two Dalit youths were tied to a pole and brutally beaten on suspicion of theft. The incident is said to have taken place on July 22, but the case was registered on Saturday when a video of it went viral on social media.
Giving information, Nakhasa Station House Officer (SHO) Rajneesh Kumar said that the mother of one of the victims, Sunita, who is a resident of Nahar Dher village, has lodged a complaint in this regard.
According to the complaint, his 20-year-old son Sundar and 22-year-old relative Shani had gone to Sambhal to see the Kanwar Yatra. On the way, some people from Barhai Wali Basti stopped them, accused them of theft and tied them to a pole and beat them up.
According to the police, the injured youths have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
In the case, the police have registered a case against 10 to 12 unidentified people including Nand Kishore, Bharat, Dabbu, Bhura and Shriram’s son. They have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). Which includes section 191 (2) – rioting, section 190 – unlawful assembly, section 127 (2) – wrongful confinement, section 115 (2) – intentionally causing hurt, section 352 – intentional insult causing breach of peace, section 351 (2) – criminal intimidation.
Along with this, a case has also been registered against the accused under the provisions of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
SHO said that investigation into the case is underway and strict legal action will be taken against the culprits.
