Uttar Pradesh: A serious case of caste violence has come to light in Baghpat district. Dalit students of an inter college located in Dhanaura Silvernagar of Binauli area have alleged that the teachers beat them up for raising the slogan ‘Jai Bhim’ during the prayer meeting on 26 August.
What happened on the day of the incident?
According to the students, during the prayer, some boys shouted slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. In response, a group of Dalit students shouted ‘Jai Bhim’. It is alleged that after this, the school’s PTI (physical education teacher) and two other teachers called five students to a separate room.
A student said, “Two teachers held our hands and the third beat us with a stick. We were also punished by making us stand like a rooster.”
Serious allegations against the principal
The students allege that the principal not only made casteist remarks but also threatened to expel them from the school. Another student said, “We were insulted just for saying ‘Jai Bhim’. The principal even said that we are not worthy of studying in this school.”
Complaint lodged with police, waiting for action
The victim students first reached Binauli police station, but no action was taken there. After this, on Friday, they reached the office of Superintendent of Police (SP) and demanded justice.
SP Suraj Kumar Rai confirmed the matter and said, “The complaint has been received. Binauli police station SHO Rakesh Kumar Sharma has been directed to investigate.”
Meanwhile, District School Inspector (DIOS) Raghavendra Singh said, “So far no written complaint has been received in my office. On receipt of the complaint, a detailed investigation will be conducted and necessary steps will be taken.”
Battle of Honor
Students say that this matter is not just about assault but is related to their honour. One of the victim students raised the question, “We just said ‘Jai Bhim’. Why were we punished for this?”
