Attempted rape in Bandarban’s Lama; locals hand over accused to police

An 18-year-old was handed over to the police by locals after allegedly attempting to rape a student of class nine in Soroi union, under Bandarban’s Lama upazila, this morning.
The incident occurred around 7am in the Joromoni Para area, where the accused, Md Jabed, reportedly blocked the girl on her way to school and dragged her into a nearby forest.
According to locals, the girl’s screams alerted nearby residents, who rushed to the scene, rescued her, and apprehended Jabed. Locals later placed a garland of shoes around Jabed’s neck before handing him over to Soroi police outpost.
Confirming the incident, Soroi Police Outpost In-Charge Md Atikur Rahman said, “A case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, and the accused has been transferred to Lama Police Station for further legal proceedings.”
