Delhi: IGDTUW fired all the sweepers on one day’s notice, the university comes under the Delhi government.

Delhi: Safai Karamcharis working in Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women located at Kashmere Gate have been suddenly fired. It is being told that the sanitation workers were told by the university administration just a day ago that you do not have to come to work from tomorrow. Sudden job loss has brought distress to many families. The sweepers are agitating against this injustice.

Memorandum given to VC and Labor Labor Commissioner

The Safai Kamgar Union has submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor and Labor Commissioner of the University against this sudden action and demanded the reinstatement of the employees. According to the press release issued by SKU, on September 14, the Safai Karamcharis were informed by the top officials of the university that due to the end of the tender of the existing ACME company, all the cleaning workers were fired from tomorrow i.e. from September 15. will be given.

Entry of sweepers closed 

According to the Safai Kamgar Union, the entry of all the workers in the university campus has been stopped from tomorrow. The sweepers are agitating against this decision taken in a jiffy but till now they have not got any concrete assurance.

University comes under Delhi Government 

Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women comes under the Government of Delhi. The cleaning work is done on contract and scavengers are appointed on contract from an agency. In this system of privatization, neither the rules of reservation nor the labor laws are followed. The Kejriwal government of Delhi is also raising questions on the loss of the job of the sweepers.

Notice is given at least one month in advance

As per the provisions of the extant labor law, it is necessary that in the event of termination of the job, the employees should be informed at least one month in advance, which has not been done by the university administration. Due to being fired without prior notice, a situation of great fear has arisen among the employees and deep concern about livelihood and employment has arisen. Most of the sweepers were working here for the last several years.

Worked even during the Corona period but lost the job

According to the SKU, the sanitation workers have worked daily in the lockdown imposed in the Kovid-19 epidemic and after that in the first and second wave of the epidemic. In this era of epidemic, many workers have also lost their family members and have been forced to take loans for their treatment. This is the only means of employment for the sanitation workers working here and in this era of epidemic, being fired without prior information will create a mountain of difficulties not only for the sweepers but their entire family.

All sweepers should be reinstated – SKU

The removal of the sweepers in the university in this difficult time of the pandemic is tantamount to severe harassment for them. In this regard, SKU has demanded that re-employment of all the employees should be ensured even in the event of change of tender. In the event of this demand not being met, SKU has announced a massive agitation.
