Archbishop of Bangalore promises aid to over 70 Manipur students

College and high school students from the conflict-torn hill state of Manipur have received assistance in rebuilding their shattered lives, thanks in part to Bangalore’s Archbishop Peter Machado.
The state where 317 churches had already been destroyed and 100,000 people had been made homeless, witnessed a recent escalation in violence that, according to reports, led to the deaths of 11 additional individuals.
On June 12, Archbishop Machado received close to 70 students from the state at the archdiocesan pastoral centre to comfort and reassure them of support.
“We will provide all-round help,” said the prelate.
A spokeswoman for the archdiocese, J A Kantharaj, told UCA News on June 14 that the prelate “listened to their ordeals and promised to do whatever possible in his capacity to rebuild their shattered lives.”
“The archbishop has promised to assist them until their situation improves,” he added.
Archbishop Machado advised students that they may continue their education “free of cost” in facilities maintained by diocese and religious orders.
