Two Christians arrested under MP’s anti-conversion law granted bail

15 June 2023
Ten days after their detention on allegations of religious conversion under the broad anti-conversion law, a pastor and his female associate were granted bail by a Madhya Pradesh sessions court on June 13.
Pastor Mayaram Ningwal and his partner Aarti Saket’s bail requests were denied on June 6, however the two were successful in getting it on June 13. This information comes from Christian activist Minakshi Singh.
As of June 14, Roshan Faster, a second pastor who was detained on June 4 along with pastor Ningwal, has not yet been let out, according to Singh.
Following the Bajrang Dal’s disruption of a prayer session held at a home owned by Saket in Satna district on the grounds that they were engaged in conversion activities, all three Christians were booked under the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2021.
The harsh anti-conversion law that has been passed by 11 states in the country is frequently used to target and attack Christians.
The Bharatiya Adivasi Sangamam’s Delhi area president, Nabore Ekka, told UCA News that “allegations of religious conversion are often false.”
“Who has documented the case? If they have, let them bring it into the public domain,” he observed.
Since the anti-conversion legislation was passed, it has been abused, and the Dalits and tribal people, who are compelled to renounce their Christian faith, suffer the most.
