Man sent to jail over rape of 9-year-old

A Jamalpur court today sent a 22-year-old man to jail in a case filed over the rape of a nine-year-old girl in Jamalpur’s Bokshigaj upazila.
The incident took place yesterday evening in the Kakmaripara area of Bakshiganj municipality.
The accused, Ripon Mia, was produced before court today after being arrested in a case filed by the victim’s family, said Khandaker Shaker Ahmad, officer-in-charge of Bakshiganj Police Station.
The court later sent him to jail, the police official added.
According to police and locals, Ripon lured the girl by promising to show her birds and took her to a nearby maize field and raped her.
Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the scene, apprehended Ripon, and beat him up.
On information, police rushed to the spot and detained him after providing initial medical treatment.
