Man sent to jail over rape of 13-year-old in Thakurgaon

A Thakurgaon court sent a man to jail this afternoon after he was arrested on charges of raping a 13-year-old girl in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
The accused is Md Shahjahan Ali, alias Gendu, 46.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Tahmidur Rahman passed the order after police produced him before the court this afternoon.
Shahjahan was arrested from Thakurgaon town early today after the victim’s father filed a case against him with Ruhea Police Station last night.
Citing the case statement, investigating officer Md Jakiul Islam told the Daily Star over phone that the perpetrator raped the girl when she was alone in her house yesterday afternoon around 1:30pm.
Her parents and brothers was outside for work, he added.
The victim’s father alleged that earlier, he had issued a warning to Shahjahan when he made sexual advances towards his daughter, said the IO.
Meanwhile, students and locals formed a human chain today demanding the capital punishment for Shahjahan for raping the schoolgirl.
They demanded a speedy trial and execution of the rapist.
