The body of a Dalit youth living in a live-in relationship with a foreign girlfriend in Jodhpur, the home district of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, was found half-naked on the railway track in Basni area on July 12. Assuming it to be a suicide, the police took the body to the mortuary of Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital for postmortem. Where the relatives refused to get the postmortem done fearing murder.
Meanwhile, the father of the deceased youth lodged an FIR at the Kudi Bhagatasani police station accusing the family members of his girlfriend of murder. The relatives along with social organizations sat on a dharna outside the hospital march demanding the arrest of the accused for registering the FIR late on Wednesday night. The relatives say that until the police arrest the accused of murder named in the FIR, they will not get the post-mortem done. On Thursday, the police officers sat on a dharna and explained with the family members and social organizations, but the matter did not work out.

Deceased Jagdish Meghwal’s father Omaram s/o Surjaram Meghwal resident of Meghwalon Dudhia, Tehsil Luni district Jodhpur told the police that his son Jagdish was living in Jodhpur and doing private work. Jagdish and Gayatri daughter Hanumanram Prajapati resident of Kharada Bhandu were in relationship and both were in love with each other.

After hearing on this, on Tuesday, July 11, the Honorable Rajasthan High Court ordered the police to provide security to the loving couple. Gayatri and Jagdish returned home the same evening with a copy of the order.

On the report of father Omaram, the police registered an FIR against the said accused on the charges of assault and kidnapping including murder and handed over the investigation to SC, ST Cell Jodhpur West Manaram Garg. He said that “a case of murder has been registered on late night of July 12. I have received a letter for investigation on Thursday. Preliminary investigation has revealed that for security, the loving couple had filed a protection petition in the High Court. On July 11, the court passed orders for the police commissioner, Jodhpur, to provide security to the loving couple.

Garg said that investigation revealed that the court had directed both of them to go to the police commissioner with a copy of the order, but they did not reach there. Even before this, the relatives took the girl with them. He said that the girl is with her family members. In such a situation, we cannot even deny that the young man has not committed suicide. He said that before registering the FIR on the charges of murder, the GRP has also registered a case considering it as a case of runover. After this, on the report of family members, an FIR has been registered for murder.
The investigating officer further said whether it is murder or suicide, nothing can be said now. The direction of the investigation will be decided only after the investigation proceeds after the post mortem report. He said that the relatives are sitting on a dharna demanding the arrest of the accused named in the FIR. We have explained to them. The investigating officer said that on Tuesday evening the court gave orders for security, but neither through the court nor personally the security orders have reached the police.
