4 Chhatra Dal men arrested over gang-rape in Jashore

Lalmonirhat Mon Mar 17, 2025 10:24 AM

15-yr-old arrested for raping 5-yr-old in Lalmonirhat

In two incidents of sexual violence, an 18-year-old girl was gang-raped by Chhatra Dal members in Jashore’s Jhikargachha upazila, while a 5-year-old child was raped by a 15-year-old boy in Lalmonirhat’s Hatibandha upazila.

In Jashore, police have arrested four Chhatra Dal leaders in connection with the gang-rape of an 18-year-old victim at a litchi garden at Patuapara village of Gadkhali union in Jhikargachha around 8:00pm.

According to police, the arrestees include the general secretary and office secretary of the Gadkhali Union Chhatra Dal unit.

The victim called 999 for help, prompting Jhikargachha Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Bablur Rahman Khan and his team to take immediate action. They rescued the victim from the spot and later arrested the four using mobile tracking.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nishat Al Nahian confirmed that a case has been filed against the arrested men. They are Al Mamun Hossain, 20, general secretary of Gadkhali Union Chhatra Dal; Yasin Arafat, 21, office secretary; and members Jaber Hossain, 22, and Amirul Islam, 20.

Quoting the case statement, OC Bablur Rahman said that the victim had returned from her aunt’s house in Benapole and got off a bus at Gadkhali Bazar in the afternoon. While purchasing flowers from a shop, the four accused approached her and, under the pretense of visiting a flower garden, lured her to a nearby litchi garden, where they gang-raped her.

Upon receiving information, Additional Superintendent of Police Noor-e-Alam Siddiqui and ASP Nishat Al Nahian visited the scene.

Following the arrests, Jhikargachha Upazila Chhatra Dal convener, Ashraful Alam Rana, said that the four individuals have been expelled from their organisational positions.

Meanwhile, in Lalmonirhat, a 15-year-old boy was arrested on charge of raping a 5-year-old girl in Hatibandha upazila.

The victim’s father filed a case in this regard. Police later arrested the accused last night.

According to the case statement, the boy took the child to a room and raped her. Family members and locals rescued her after hearing her screams. The boy fled the scene.

Police later arrested the accused from Sardubi Kanar Bazar last night.

Hatibandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmudun Nabi confirmed that the accused confessed to the crime.

A charge sheet will be submitted to the court soon, he added.

Meanwhile, the victim was first taken to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment, according to Dr Anwarul Haque, resident medical officer (RMO) of the upazila health complex.
